Latest Developments on Iran Uprising

As protesters gear up for another showdown tomorrow, nightly chants of “Death to the dictator” and “Death to Khamenei” are again ringing out in many neighborhoods in Tehran and other cities, as here in the Janatabad neighborhood of Tehran.

The aunt of Nika Shakarami, the 16-year-old brave Iranian female protester that was abducted, tortured, and beaten to death by regime security forces, and then pushed off a roof to claim she died in suicide has spoken out. Atash Shakrami said, “What do you want to know about Nika? Look for everything you want to know about her in the girls around you. They need freedom – equality. It is not easy to understand, but it is possible. But if you want to know how I look at Nika, I can tell you. What is important to me is that she chose with awareness and open eyes (you have seen her videos for sure). She went out to fight for freedom and never came back.” Nika Shakarami and many youngsters and women like her have laid down their lives for Iran’s freedom and are a part of the reason that the Iranian public is now resolutely up in arms and will not back down until the downfall of the entirety of the regime.

  • Security forces are attacking anyone in the streets in a blatant act of desperation as can be seen in this social media post from Iran.
  • Tabriz – The brutality directed by Khamenei in his orders to security forces not to show mercy is on display in this video report.
  • The widespread torching of regime symbols continues in Iran.
  • A young Iranian girl stands in brave protest in traffic with a placard that reads: “I am not a rioter. My father is with IRGC and I protest against your regime. Tell me where to express my protest so that the answer is not a bullet?!”

Amid Continuation of Uprising, Iranian Regime Show Desperate Reactions

Nasser-Mohammadi-the-Iranian-regime-Supreme-Leaders-representative-in-YazdDuring his Friday prayer sermon, Nasser Mohammadi, the Iranian regime’s Supreme Leader’s representative in Yazd said: “The Baha’is and hypocrites (regime’s phrase for slandering the MEK in Iran’s society) are the main leaders of the recent riots and their traces are well felt in the riots.”

Acknowledging the public’s disgust of state media, he added: “Why should some people eagerly accept the words of foreigners, but refuse to accept the words of our own media and news agencies?”

رضا-حاجی-پور-نماینده-مجلسIn an interview with the state-run ILNA news agency, while reporting on the whereabouts of the arrested protesters, MP Reza Hajipour said: “We rarely have had any arrests among students. Except for special cases that were related to some terrorist networks abroad, we do not have any detentions. Some people have been summoned and are being interrogated.”

Deceitfully referring to the brutal dungeons, he added: “We don’t have school students in prison, and if there are any detained, it is for the sake of discussion, correction, and education. They are in the psychology center, and our expert friends do their work so that they can return to the school environment after retribution.”

Ebrahim YaqoubianEbrahim-Yaqoubian-Khameneis-representative-in-Amol, Khamenei’s representative in Amol said: “In the recent riots, some people sought the fall of the city of Amol because with the fall of Amol, they could take over the rest of the cities.”

“The counter-revolutionary forces wanted to take revenge for the 1980s. Perhaps the people don’t know, but those in Albania had sent messages to capture Amol. This city was of great importance to the deceased Imam and this is why capturing Amol was important to them as well. And now, let me tell the MEK that if you want to fight us, we will kill you all!”

Iran Uprising at a Glance – Day 29

Based partially on reporting by PMOI (MEK) Network in Iran

Friday, October 14, 2022 – 4 PM CET

  • Days: 29th day
  • Protests: 185 cities
  • Fatalities: 400+ estimated deaths, 206 identified by MEK
  • Detentions: 20,000+

Today, protests were reported in at least 19 cities across Iran with people chanting slogans of “Death to Khamenei” and “Death to the dictator”, and youth throwing cocktails and setting fire to posters and properties that symbolize the state.‌ These include the cities of Tehran, Karaj, Ilam, Fouladshahr, Shahinshahr, Arak, Baneh, Qom, Yazd, Quds city, Ahvaz, Bukan, Mashhad, Abhar, Shiraz, Kermanshah, Marivan, Saqqez, and Mirjaveh.

With each passing day, the role of young activists and Resistance Units in Iran in organizing protests in Tehran and nationwide becomes clear.  They have mobilized thousands of protesters in scores of cities across the country, particularly on Saturday and Wednesday of this week, through social media at a time of serious internet disruptions.

Currently, there is a call to gather tomorrow “in all places where mercenaries and suppressive forces are not present” to chant “Down with the Dictator”.

The activists are playing on the regime’s fatigue with the protests as some videos show them running around aimlessly to suppress protests that dissipate to form at another corner before they arrive. The regime’s forces are exhausting themselves even more after long hours of deployment

Eyewitnesses report that security forces are now continually present in all busy streets and squares to prevent people from protesting and prevent pedestrians from stopping.

Recent protests have been launched by highly nimble, mobile groups that join together, chant, and separate again in a flash-mob style whenever they find a chance, as can be seen in video posts on social media.

Meanwhile, regime insiders and apologists are suggesting off-ramps to the regime’s hardcore. On Thursday, October 13, the editor of the Islamic Republic newspaper, Masih Mohajeri, wrote that “protesters may end the uprising and get closer to state officials if they see that their economic problems are solved, and their civic rights are respected by those officials.” A mild criticism of the regime that does not explain how that would be possible, particularly since Khamenei has insisted on a harsh crackdown that is now ongoing.

  • Behshahr – Protesters torched a site of the regime’s IRGC paramilitary Basij Force.
  • Sistan and Baluchestan – Protesters burn pictures of the regime’s founder, Ruhollah Khomeini, and in this video post on Twitter, the protester says: “We are burning your picture now, and soon we will burn your regime down.”
  • Zahedan – Locals continued the nationwide protests against the regime on the 29th day of the uprising. They’re chanting against the regime’s IRGC paramilitary Basij Force.
  • Neyshapur – Protesters toppled the status of the regime’s founder, Ruhollah Khomeini
  • Bayram, Larestan – The official Fars news agency reported that an IRGC office, Noureddin Jangjoo, and a regime mullah, Ahmadreza Erfaninia, were both killed after attacking and clashing with young protesters.
  • Qazvin – On October 13, locals attacked a member of the regime’s plainclothes agents. Activists say he was a member of the IRGC paramilitary Basij Force.
