Iran’s Misery Index, which measures total unemployment and inflation, rose to 39% last winter, while the figure was 19.4% in the winter of 2016, the Statistical Center of Iran said in its latest report on the economic situation in Iran.

According to the assessment, the unemployment rate reached 12.1% and inflation stood at 26.9% last winter.

Furthermore, the inflation rate in spring 2019 has been in an uptrend and in June it reached 37.6%, reports say.

According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the unemployment rate in Iran last year was 13.9%, and is expected to reach 15.4% in 2019. This figure will also increase in the coming years, projected to reach 19.4% in 2024.

IMF predicted Iran’s inflation rate to be 37.2% this year.

Thus, the Misery Index is expected to increase sharply for the period since last winter, and its rate of increase is expected to accelerate.
