Public Trust in Our State Has Never Been This Low – Iranian Official
Conducting a speech for the Islamic Associations of Independent Students, Ahmad Tavakoli, a member of the Iranian regime’s Expediency Council said: “Unfortunately, hunger and poverty have become significant in Iran and the number of those below the hypothetical poverty line is 60% of the country’s population. While deciding about 60 million people who are eligible to receive subsidies, the parliament is accepting that 72% of the Iranian people are entitled to donations.”
“Let’s not deceive ourselves. In the last 40 years, the people’s trust in our state has never been lower than it is now,” Tavakoli said.
Expressing concerns about the looming threat of uprisings, this member of the Expediency Council added: “If the state does not address these problems, things will happen that shouldn’t.”
Why Iran’s Regime Is Terrified of Growing Focus On Its Human Rights Record
In a session of the so-called Supreme Council of Human Rights Staff, regime officials expressed their concern about their human rights record catching up with them. Judiciary Chief Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejei chaired the meeting which, Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Shamkhani, and five cabinet members: Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abollahian, Intelligence Minister Esmail Khatib, Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi, Culture Minister Mohammad Mehdi Esmaili, and Justice Minister Amin Hossein Rahimi also attended.
Iran’s Regime Is Doing Nothing to Help Flood Victims
As seasonal floods continue to ravage large swaths of Iran, the regime is doing nearly nothing to help the victims. MP Moein Al-Din Saeidi: Konarak, Chabahar, Dashtyari, and Zarabad are flooded—Tehran officials are still in hibernation. There has been no help, from nowhere. No official has come here. Our homes are under water. [These officials] have gathered here for nothing. They just took pictures and did nothing. State-run Aftab-e Yazd: As usual, officials are caught by surprise… There has been no investment in this domain.
Canadian Court Holds Iranian Regime Accountable for the Deaths of Canadian Civilians in Airstrike
In a ruling in a Canadian court on Monday, the Iranian regime was ordered to pay $84 million to the families of the 85 Canadian victims who lost their lives on Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 in January 2020, which was shot down by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Lawyers representing the families of the victims have stated that if the regime ignore the civil lawsuit’s ruling, there is an option to secure a portion of the compensation by seizing some of Iran’s assets. Similar lawsuits are being conducted around the world in the home countries of the other victims.
Iran: Workers Can’t Afford a Food Basket
The state-run Hamdeli daily reported on Jan 2 that the cost of the workers’ food basket is soaring. “The cost of workers’ food baskets has reached 115 million rials per month. Due to their living conditions, most workers cannot afford these expenses.”
Political Prisoner Khadijeh Mehdipour Sentenced to 20 Months in Prison
Political prisoner Khadijeh Medipour received 20 months of prison term. Agents of the IRGC Intelligence arrested Khadijeh Mehdipour three months ago, on October 10, 2021. Two days later, they transferred Ms. Mehdipour, 34 and a resident of Ivan-e Gharb, to the women’s ward of the Central Prison of Ilam. She has been detained there since in violation of the principle of separation of crimes.
Iran: Coronavirus Fatalities Surpass 495,500
The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) announced on Thursday, January 6, 2022, that the Coronavirus death toll in 547 cities exceeds 495,500. In Tehran the number of victims has passed 115,830, Isfahan 34,335, Khuzestan 29,930, Fars 18,720, Gilan 17,190, East Azerbaijan 17,128, Alborz 14,468, Golestan 10,785, Hormozgan 8,195, Yazd 8,188, and Kurdistan 8,172.
