• MTN Halts Iran Fiber Optic Investment

South Africa’s MTN has halted collaborations with Iranian fiber optic network service provider Iranian Net.

According to Iran’s Communication Regulatory Authority chief Hossein Fallah, “The foreign firm [MTN] has failed to invest in Iranian Net [as agreed in an earlier deal].”

• U.S. Officials Warn of Potential Cyber Attacks from Iran

Iranian hackers have laid the groundwork to carry out extensive cyber-attacks against private U.S. and European companies, U.S. officials warn, according to NBC News. Although experts don’t believe any such attack is imminent, the preparations could enable denial-of-service attacks on infrastructure including electric grids and water plants, plus health care and technology companies across the U.S., Europe, and Middle East, say U.S. officials at the 2018 Aspen Security Forum.

• Pompeo Reaches Out to Iranian-Americans Amid Hard-Line On Iran

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will reach out to a divided Iranian-American community — some of whom are dismayed by Washington’s withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal and the reimposition of sanctions as well as a travel ban that prevents many Iranians from entering the United States — in a July 22 speech near Los Angeles.

The speech — which will highlight issues such as “corruption of the regime,” “brutal repression at home,” and “religious persecution,” according to a senior State Department official.

• People Protest to Poor Water Situation in Vahdatiyeh, Bushehr Province of Iran

On Friday July 20, 2018, the people in the city of Vahdatiyeh, in the province of Bushehr, Iran gathered in protest against lack of water and poor water situation in the city.

The gathering led to the closure of the Fars-Bushehr route and caused sever traffic making vehicles barely move along the road.

• Human rights lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh indicted with new charges

Human rights lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh has been indicted with new charges, Reza Khandan, husband of the Human rights lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh, informed the press and media.

Human rights lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh was summoned last week to Branch 2 of Evin Prosecutor’s Inspections Office to be informed of new charges.

Reza Khandan stated that there are two files for her at the Judiciary and her new charge is participation in “founding and running the outlaw group-let of LEGAM.” LEGAM is a campaign formed by a group of civil activists in Iran to abolish the death penalty.
