Iran Uprising-No. 95

Calling for support for striking workers and action to free them

On Saturday, March 3, hundreds of workers from the Ahvaz Steel National Group along with their families demonstrated on the streets of the city and gathered in front of the governorate. Their demonstration was in protest against the arrest of their colleagues and also to ask for their demands to be met. They chanted: “Imprisoned workers should be released”; “We support you, the imprisoned worker”; “State Security Force, be careful! We are workers, not thugs”; “We shall persist to get our rights”; “Thieves are free out there, but the workers are in prison”.

On Thursday night, March 1, suppressive forces arrested at least 10 of striking forces during a raid on their houses. More than 300 workers from Ahvaz National Steel Group have been on strike for several months to get their salaries and benefits unpaid for several months.

Iranian Resistance asks all Iranians, especially the deprived workers, to support Ahvaz Steel workers and to protest against their suppression and arrest. It also calls on international authorities and human rights organizations, workers’ rights organizations, trade unions and syndicates to support the Iranian workers’ movement and to take effective action for the immediate and unconditional release of the detainees.
