Solidarity with the new wave of anti-regime protests across Iran
On August 5, Ebrahim Raisi will officially become the Iran regime’s next president, as popular protests have rocked the country, especially in Khuzestan.
Supporters of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) are staging protest rallies in fifteen cities worldwide to denounce Raisi as Iran’s next president and express their solidarity with the protests by the Iranian people.
Ebrahim Raisi was a key member of Tehran’s death commission in 1988, which sent thousands of political prisoners to the gallows.
Less than 10% of the eligible voters took part in the election after the Iranian Resistance called for a boycott, making it clear that the Iranian regime wants this regime overthrown.
Rallies and marches would be held on August 3 in Berlin, London, Stockholm, Oslo, Paris, Roma, The Hague, Brussels, Vienna, Bern, Washington D.C., Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, and Copenhagen. Participants will call for a criminal investigation into Raisi’s conduct. They will also urge the international community to refrain from engaging with a regime whose president was involved in crimes against humanity.
Background on Iran protests
On Monday, July 26, a new protest erupted in Iran’s capital with chants of “Death to the dictator” and “Khamenei, shame on you! Let go of the country!” – a direct challenge to the regime’s Supreme Leader.
The move followed protests which began 12 days ago in Khuzestan Province (southwest Iran) over severe water shortages but have now turned into angry calls for regime change. In many parts of Iran, the regime has shut down the internet to block the spread of information.
In a report on Friday, Amnesty International said that security forces had killed at least eight protesters, including a teenager since the protests began.
The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) confirmed further killings, placing the latest death toll at 12.
