NCRI – The mother of Mostafa Karim Beigi, a martyr of the 2009 uprising in Iran, was sentenced by Iranian regime’s judiciary to “one year in prison and ban on any membership in social media and political groups.”
According to reports, Shahnaz Akmali is also banned from leaving the country. She is charged with “propaganda against the system.” She was tried in court on October 15 and the verdict was issued by the so-called judge Ahmadzadeh, head of Branch 26 of the regime’s revolutionary court in Tehran.
Shahnaz Akmali was arrested in 2016 and spent 24 days in ward 209 of Evin prison in Tehran before being released on a 100 million Toman bail temporarily until her trial.
Mostafa Karim Beigi, Ms. Akmali’s son, was shot on the head by the security forces during the 2009 popular uprising and died shortly after. His family said during the autopsy, the sign of the bullet was obvious on his forehead.
Despite his residence in Tehran, security officials did not allow Mostafa Karim Beigi to be buried in Tehran and his family were forced to bury him in a village.
Karim Beigi’s mother has always been under pressure from security officials because of holding her son’s martyrdom anniversary and making statements about political prisoners.
