Washington Free Beacon: UN Investigator Finds Iran Responsible for ‘Egregious’ Human Rights Abuses

A United Nations investigator on Wednesday said Iran has committed “egregious” human rights violations.

U.N. special rapporteur Javaid Rehman told members of the U.N. Human Rights Council that Iran has overseen a brutal crackdown on political and religious freedom since protests in 2019 and urged member states to hold Tehran accountable, according to Voice of America. Rehman said that Iran killed at least 304 Iranians during the 2019 demonstrations, which protested against the hardline regime.

The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) announced on March 10, 2021, that the Coronavirus death toll in 518 cities had exceeded 229,000. The number of victims in Tehran is 53,821, Isfahan 14,825, Khuzestan 12,535, Mazandaran 9,722, East Azerbaijan 8,848, Qom 8,490, Gilan 8,131, Fars 6,792, Alborz 5,698, Kerman 5,059, Semnan 3,690, North Khorasan 3,493, Zanjan 2,490, Hormozgan 2,485, and Bushehr 2,314.

Head of Iran’s Prisons: Prisoners can be used as “cheap labor”

In a visit with the East Azerbaijan Governor on March 5, the Head of Iran’s Prison Organizations said prisoners were cheap labor and could be used by the private sector.

“Prisoners are cheap labor and can be used by the private sector”, Mohammad Mehdi Haj Mohammadi said in comments carried by the state-run ISNA News Agency, adding that it would be a “win-win” situation for both prisoners and the private sector.
