Iran: New security force in schools in run-up to new academic yearNCRI – The following is a statement by the Education Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran on September 18, 2006:

The chief of State Security Forces in Greater Tehran Brig. Gen. Morteza Talai announced the formation of a new suppressive force called “Youth Police” in schools, the semi-official daily Kayhan reported on September 16. “This action is to prevent any possible emergency or crime taking place.”

In this regard, Ms. Soheila Sadeq, Chair of the Education Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, stated, “The creation of this security apparatuses in the run-up to the new academic year is indicative of the mullahs’ fear of student protests. This is especially so since the mullahs’ regime is extremely hated by Iranian youths.”

Ms. Sadeq said, “Over the past year, the mullahs’ regime has created a number of suppressive forces in parallel to each other. These include District Police, Mountain Police, Undercover Police, Judicial Police and many other plans for countering the volatile state of society and preventing the formation of popular uprisings. Since Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s ascendancy to power last year, despite an increase in suppression, popular protests and uprisings in Iran have increased dramatically.”
