NCRI-50Call to save the lives of political prisoners

and for a visit by an International Commission of Inquiry

Tuesday afternoon (September 15, 2020), Special Units of Urmia Central Prison Guards brutally attacked and severely beat up political prisoners who were protesting the harsh prison conditions, particularly the situation created due to the deadly Coronavirus. The criminal guards broke and destroyed all the prisoners’ belongings, including televisions and refrigerators, and other personal possessions.

During the onslaught, all books, including copies of the Qur’an, were desecrated, which angered the prisoners. Several political prisoners were injured, and all windows and doors were shattered.

As of the time of this report, the repressive guards were still gathering behind the political prisoner’s ward, seeking to attack prisoners on the pretext of “rioting.” Many political prisoners have gone on hunger strike to protest the brutal attack. Prisoners’ lives are in danger.

The Iranian Resistance underscores that the regime’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and, the Judiciary Chief, Ebrahim Raisi would be responsible for anything happening to political prisoners. It calls on the United Nations and the human rights organizations to take urgent action to save the lives of political prisoners in Iran. It also stresses the need for a visit to Iran by an international fact-finding committee to meet with prisoners, especially political prisoners.
