The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) announced on July 5, 2020, that the Coronavirus death toll in 342 cities in Iran is more than 65,900. The number of victims in Khuzestan is 5,040, Khorasan Razavi 4,570, Mazandaran 2,960, Golestan 1,645, North Khorasan 850, Kerman 830, Hormozgan 685, Zanjan 610, and Qazvin 565.
Iraj Harirchi, the regime’s Deputy Health Minister, admitted that 18 million people are infected with Coronavirus. He said, “In some provinces that the Coronavirus epidemic started sooner, over 50% of the population is infected with the virus. Therefore, the figure of 18 million for those infected with the virus is not odd.” Speaking to the state-run media, Fartaknews today, he added, “It is very likely that the death toll could increase to about 200 daily… Due to the high density in Tehran Province, its outskirts, and Alborz Province (the neighboring Province), the current slow increase in the death toll can increase exponentially and explosively … Some provinces like Khuzestan, Bushehr, East and West Azerbaijan, Kurdistan, Kermanshah, which were in a normal situation in March, are now experiencing their first peak, and we are concerned about provinces like Fars that may have many infections in the future.” Harirchi was also quoted by the state TV, yesterday, as saying that 15,000 of the countries’ medical staff had contracted the virus.
A spokesperson for the regime’s Health Ministry said today that 163 people had died to Coronavirus in the past 24 hours, the highest number since the beginning of the outbreak. She told IRNA today, “Khuzestan, West and East Azerbaijan, Kurdistan, Kermanshah, Hormozgan, Bushehr, Khorasan Razavi, and Ilam provinces are in red. The provinces of Tehran, Fars, Isfahan, Mazandaran, Hamedan, Zanjan, Sistan and Baluchestan, Alborz and Lorestan are on alert.”
Masoud Mardani, a member of the National Coronavirus Combat Taskforce (NCCT), told the state TV-network-1 yesterday, “I visited at least 68 patients on Wednesday, 62 of them were infected with Coronavirus … The situation is terrible… Unfortunately, infection and mortalities may go even higher.”
Morteza Khatami, a member of the regime’s Parliament’s Health and Treatment Commission, told Tasnim news agency yesterday, “Many cities are in alarming and red situation… The number of those hospitalized in health centers has increased, and hospital beds are being occupied. Removing restrictions on the pretext of economic issues raises the concern that health will be sacrificed for economic reasons.”
In Tehran, Reza Karami, head of the Crisis Prevention and Management Organization, told Entekhab daily today, “Tehran has 50 hospitals that are more than 50 years old and lack standard safety features… Because of some considerations, we cannot divulge their names because making that public would make the situation worse and cause public anxiety.”
In South Khorasan, the president of the Medical Sciences University in Birjand told IRNA on July 4, “Currently, six cities out of 11 cities in the Province are in a hazardous situation (red) as far as Coronavirus spread is concerned. We don’t have any city with less danger or white (virus-free) in the Province.”
In Khorasan Razavi and North Khorasan, physicians said the number of those identified with infections and fatalities on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday in the two provinces reached 18,300 and 810, respectively. Some 4,700 have been infected, and more than 300 have died. In Neyshabur, the figure for those infected is 3,500, and deaths are 100. In Quchan, more than 1,000 have been infected, and over 30 died. In Sabzevar, the figure for those infected is 4,370, and deaths are above 150. In Torbat Heydariyeh, more than 2,000 were infected, and 160 died. In North Khorasan, 2,730 were infected, and 70 died.
In Golestan, the president of the University of Medical Sciences told Mehr news agency today, “A catastrophe worse than March is expected … A peak as high as the one in March is not out of the realm of possibility. We have 300 patients hospitalized in Gonbad Kavus, and the situation in other hospitals in Kalaleh, Minudasht, and other eastern regions is not good either… We expect to face problems in providing services due to the shortage of oxygen and beds, and we need to make a quick decision in this regard.”
Head of the public relations office of the University of Medical Sciences in Hormozgan was quoted by ISNA as saying yesterday, “Eleven more people passed away yesterday.” The president of the University told Baz Khabar yesterday, “Hormozgan is now at the peak of the disease… Further spread of the disease is expected in villages this week.”
According to the Tasnim website, the vice-president of the University of Medical Sciences in Zanjan said yesterday, “The number of Coronavirus patients is rising… We face a shortage of equipment, and the current facilities are not sufficient for the incoming patients … One hundred members of the medical staff have been infected with COVID-19… The Province is short of personnel in the health and treatment sectors and hospital facilities.”
In Kerman, the president of the Medical Sciences University in Jiroft told the Tasnim news agency yesterday, “If the upward trend in the number of those infected continues the way it is, we will certainly face problems in the future.”
According to IRNA, on July 4, “With the renewed peak of Coronavirus in Babol, the number of hospitalized patients in hospitals under the supervision of Bobol’s Medical University has increased. The city is now red. The number of those hospitalized with deteriorating conditions has increased.”
