NCRI – The coal miners in Kuhbanan and Zarand areas in Kerman, central Iran, staged protests on May 24 and 25 demanding immediate payment of their unpaid wages, according to reports received from inside Iran.

Two months into the new Iranian calendar year, these coal miners have not received a portion of their salaries for the previous year and New Year bonuses. More than 5000 miners work in these private and public sector coal mines.

Separately, according to the state-run ILNA news agency, workers of East Alborz Coal Mines protested against two months non-payment of their salaries as well as bonuses and said: “Although two months of the new year have passed, the bonuses of 400 miners working in East Alborz Coal Mines as well as two months delayed and unpaid salaries are not paid yet.”

Another report in ILNA said that 120 workers of the Jam tile factory in Boroujerd, western Iran, have lost their jobs due to the tile industry downturn and closure of production units in this industry resulting in total closure of the factory.

On Friday, May 27, ILNA reported that 1800 workers in Isfahan Province, central Iran, have lost their jobs. The report quoted Mohsen Niroumand, head of Labor Relations in the regime’s Ministry of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Welfare in Isfahan Province, as saying: “Since the beginning of new year (March 20, 2016), 1800 workers in Isfahan Province have become unemployed due to the closure of production units.”
