Iran: Maryam Rajavi calls on G8 to adopt a firm policy against mullahs’ regime

Iran: Maryam Rajavi calls on G8 to adopt a firm policy against mullahs' regimeNCRI – On the eve of the summit of the eight major industrialized nations in St. Petersburg, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian Resistance, sent separate letters to the leaders of the G8, calling for a firm policy regarding the religious fascism ruling Iran and urging them to support a democratic change in Iran.

Mrs. Rajavi reiterated, “The regime took maximum advantage of the international community’s lack of resolve and has been playing for time in order to obtain nuclear weapons and solidify its position in Iraq in order to confront the world community with a fait accompli. The Iranian regime is completely isolated within Iran. Its leaders acknowledge that more than ninety percent of Iranians demand a regime change. The Iranian regime by acquiring the atomic bomb and domination in Iraq wants to change the balance of power in its favor to establish a regional Islamic Empire.

She said, “Concessions and negotiations will not persuade the mullahs to abandon their nuclear projects. Nor will they convince the regime to stop its interference in Iraq. The mullahs consider nuclear weapons and domination of Iraq as a strategic guarantee for their survival. Dialogue and incentives only assure them that the world community lacks the resolve to adopt a firm policy against them.”

Mrs. Rajavi added, “More than 4,000 demonstrations, protests and strikes by different sectors of Iranian society in the past year and their calls for the overthrow of the theocratic state indicate that democratic change in Iran is within reach. Regrettably, Western policy that has amounted to supporting this regime and exerting pressure against its opposition has acted as the biggest impediment to change. The terrorist label on the main component of the Resistance, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran, has hamstrung more than ninety percent of its resources and capabilities. The message of this policy to the Iranian people is that the West is standing by the Iranian regime and not the Iranian people.

“Today, there is only one option to prevent the regime from acquiring nuclear weapons and dominating Iraq, both of which would be catastrophic for the international community: Democratic change in Iran. There is no need for foreign forces to realize that change. If the industrialized nations end the policy of appeasement this change would be within reach,” said Mrs. Rajavi.

She added, “Imposing comprehensive oil, weapons, technological and diplomatic sanctions on the Iranian regime through the United Nations Security Council in order to deprive it from the resources that enable it to obtain nuclear weapons and dominate Iraq and removing the terrorist label from the People’s Mojahedin Organization play an important role in bringing democratic change in Iran.”
