Anglo-Iranians stage march outside Downing Street – London paper

Anglo-Iranian residents from London's Barnett neighborhood

Anglo-Iranian residents from London’s Barnet neighborhood staged a march outside Number 10 Downing Street in protest against human rights abuses in Iran. The Times Series wrote this week that the protestors descended on UK Prime Minister David Cameron’s house to deliver their petition which highlighted their plight.

The petition which they delivered asks that the British government recognize the escalating human rights violations which have gone unfettered in the country and try to curb it. The group was joined by friends protesting similar abuses in Syria.

Ahmad Ebrahimi of Colindale, the head of the delegation delivering the petition and a former political prisoner, spoke of his motivations for taking part: “Since Rouhani came to power oppression is worse.”

Mr. Ebrahimi was imprisoned for ten years in the 1980s for joining a student group during the revolution, which eventually led to the massacre of over 30,000 political prisoners at the hands of the mullah regime in cold blood for their support of the main organized opposition group PMOI (or MEK). He described his experiences of being deprived of food, sleep and being subjected to lashings and torture on a regular basis.

As an eyewitness, Mr. Ebrahimi feels it’s vital to share his story and the story of others. “It’s very important people know our story.”

According to reports by Amnesty International since Hassan Rouhani came into office the number of executions has increased with nearly 700 in the last six months, the article in the London paper said. The protestors in last Saturday’s march (August 22) were eager to urge the British government to take action against these severe human rights violations in Iran. The rally was organized to coincide with the anniversary of the massacre of the 30,000 political prisoners in 1988 for the support of the PMOI and Resistance in Iran.
