IRAN: Repression of minorities continues

According to reports received, many members of Baha’i community were arrested on Sunday, March 8 in the city of Varamin. One of those arrested was identified as Ms. Laleh Mahdinéjad.

The agents of the Iranian regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) conducted a search at the home of Mrs. Mahdinéjad. These officers conducted a full inspection of her home and seized a number of documents and personal effects and arrested several of her Baha’i friends.

Laleh Mahdinéjad is being held in Section 209 of Tehran’s notorious Evin prison.

During the last few months, a number of Baha’is have been arrested by MOIS in the cities of Varamin and Isfahan.

Moreover, Ms. Massoumeh Zia who is a follower of spiritual group “Erfan-e-Halgheh” was summoned by the security organs of the clerical regime. When Ms. Zia asked the reason for being summoned, the regime’s agents said they want to question her about the meetings of this group.

Initially, Ms. Zia was informed of the summons in a telephone call from security organs of the regime. She refused to appear without written notice.

In recent days, several other followers of the group “Erfan-e-Halgheh” were summoned by the regime, including Ms. Nahid Behchid.

Mohammad Ali Taheri, the leader of this group, is currently imprisoned and because of his beliefs, he has been sentenced to 6 years in prison.
