Iran earthquake victims protest lack of emergency aid

More than 1000 people in the city of Bastak have protested on Sunday outside the governor’s office in anger at lack of tents, heating equipment and food after the earthquake that struck Hormozgan province on January 2.

One protester said Iranian TV had been claiming that tents, food and heating equipment had been supplied, but the majority of victims who lost their homes have said they have not even received blankets.

The earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5 struck the town of Bastak, about 1,200 kilometers (750 miles) south of the capital, Tehran, last week, killing one person, injuring 30 and destroying many homes and buildings.
