Iraq : Shot fired at Camp Liberty for second time in few days

Missile attack on Camp Liberty, Iraq on June 15, 2013NCRI – On Thursday afternoon, December 19, a bullet fired at Camp Liberty from outside landed in the southeastern section of the camp.

Fortunately, no one was hurt as there was no one in the vicinity at the time. This is the second bullet fired at the camp in just a few days.

The previous shot was on Sunday, December 15, which hit one of the housing trailers. The bullet pierced the container wall and hit the floor damaging the container.

In the past two years, many times bullets fired from outside have hit inside the camp. This is another parameter that seriously threatens safety and security of camp’s residents.

Residents and their representative, in their statements, correspondences and calls to U.S., Iraqi and UN officials have numerously warned that since residents are living in unprotected containers, they are vulnerable against any shots.

Iraqi government’s obstruction against the returning of the T-walls and construction of buildings in the camp has aggravated this vulnerability.
