NCRI – On Sunday afternoon, December 15, a bullet fired from outside Camp Liberty hit a container in Section 3 of the camp.
The bullet pierced the housing trailer’s wall and hit the floor where it was found. Fortunately, there was no human casualty as there was nobody inside the trailer at the time.
This is not the first time that bullets fired from outside Camp Liberty hit the living trailers that lack adequate protection.
On 15 November 2013, 4 September 2012 and 27 November 2012, similar incidents happened and bullets fired from outside the camp damaged trailers.
Residents and their representatives have numerously warned U.S., Iraqi and UN officials in statements, letters and visits to the camp that given Camp Liberty’s very small area and extremely high population density and given that all residents live in trailers, camp’s inhabitants are extremely vulnerable to any bullets or shrapnel.
Obstructions on part of the Iraqi government from returning of the T-walls and forbidding construction of any type of building for all residents, especially the patients, exacerbate this vulnerability.
