Iran: Students defy regime forces to continue protests

NCRI – Iranian students have defied security forces to continue with protests in the days after the December 7 Students’ day demonstrations.

Students at Shahroud University held a meeting on December 10 to protest over the university’s management system and and demanded the resignation of the Dean.

One student activist gave a speech outlining the problems faced and pressures imposed on students, especially women and the installation of closed-circuit security cameras.

Students at Yazd University also staged a protest on the same day timed to coincide with a visit by Science Ministry inspectors. Students chanted slogans demanding the resignation of the Dean and insisted they would continue with their protests until their demands are met.

At Kermanshah University, students began chanting ‘Death to the dictator’ in objection to the appointment of a new university Dean.

More than 500 students at Shiraz Industrial University also staged a protest demanding the resignation of their Dean by chanting ‘Dr Jam, resign’. The students also demanded that the Dean explain the arbitrary summoning of students and suppressive sentences against them.

Students at Mazandaran University also expressed objections to their Dean on December 10 and demanded his resignation.

Students of Noshirvani Babol University, in the province of Mazandaran, staged their second protest on December 10 demanding the resignation of their Dean and the release of imprisoned student activists Ziyah Nabavi, Majid Tavakoli and Majid Dorri.

At Najaf Abad University, in the province of Isfahan, more than ten protesting students were arrested during clashes with security forces on December 7.
