Abuse of political prisoners rife across Iran

NCRI – The Iranian regime’s prison authorities have transferred a group of political prisoners from Gohardasht Prison in Karaj to solitary confinement in Tehran’s Evin Prison, depriving them of any further contact with their loved ones, in the latest reports of prison abuses in the regime.

Their families are said to be ‘greatly concerned’ at the plight of the men, who include prisoners named as Kaveh Vaisi, Kaveh Sharifi, Taleb Maleki and Shahram Ahmadi.

Sunni Muslim prisoners in Gohardasht Prison are also being deprived of many facilities, and being given only two hours a day out of their cells. Prison officials are also insulting visiting family and friends, reports stated.

Political prisoners in Rajaii Shahr in Karaj are also faced with cold water for washing, a lack of basic hygiene facilities and no access to telephones.

Dervish prisoner Kasra Nouri is suffering from breathing difficulties and severe back pain due to a sciatic lump and is currently unable to walk. His condition is ‘critical’ and he is need of urgent hospital treatment, according to doctors.

Mr Nouri is, who is imprisoned with four other Dervishes, is two years into a four years and four months with torture.

Another 25 political Kurdish prisoners are also on death row, enduring torture as they wait for their executions.

Political prisoner Iraj Mohammadi, who is five years through his ten year sentence in the Zahedan central prison, was also reported to have been transferred to hospital on November 21 in a critical condition after becoming ill from food poisoning.

Farhang Pourmansour was brutally beaten by prison officials and sent to solitary confinement after going on hunger strike on November 19. He has been in prison for more than 13 years on charges of hijacking an airplane.

He, his brother and brother-in-law were under the age of 18 when they were arrested and given life sentences.
