Abuse of political prisoners continues in Iran

NCRI – Mounting evidence of the abuse of political prisoners in Iran has emerged in reports from inside the regime.

Student activist and Sunni Muslim Morteza Vafaii, 27, was arrested in March this year and held in solitary confinement for five days before being transferred to the intelligence bureau in Qeshm Island.

The blogger and Arabic Literature student at Qom Private University was later sentenced to 21 months imprisonment with physical torture on charges of acting against national security and anti-government propaganda.

Political prisoner Alireza Rajabian-Fard, a medical graduate arrested during the 2009 uprisings for provoking public unrest and insulting the regime’s supreme leader has now been transferred to ward 350 of Evin Prison to serve his three and half year jail term.

And 57-year-old Hassan Javani is in a critical condition in prison in Bandar Abbas. He was arrested in September 2011 and sentenced to ten years behind bars on charges of acting against national security.

He is now said to be suffering from heart problems, prostate and haemorrhoids and has so far been deprived of medical treatment.
