Iraq: 25 Iranian dissidents on hunger strike in Camp Liberty put under medical care

NCRI – On Monday, the 37th day of hunger strike by hundreds of Iranian dissidents in Camp Liberty located near Iraq’s Baghdad airport, two dozens of protesters put on medical care due to weakness caused by the strike.

The strikers demand immediate release of seven Camp Ashraf hostages, including 6 women, who were abducted during the Iraqi forces’ raid on Camp Ashraf.

During the attack, also Iraq forces executed 52 members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK). Many shot dead while handcuffed. Some were shot dead in the camp’s clinic along with nurses.

Based on the most recent documents obtained by the Iranian Resistance from inside the Iranian regime, the hostages are under Nouri al-Maliki’s control who personally orders their repeated relocation and changing their detention place or the guards. These documents are presentable to any international tribunal.

Physical conditions of many strikers are adverse. They are suffering problems such as headache, dizziness, digestive problems, skeletal pains, blurred vision, loss of hearing, and sleep disturbances, and have been hospitalized.

Meanwhile Hundreds of Iranians living in London took part in a rally in Trafalgar Square, on Sunday to support the international campaign “Free 7 Ashraf Hostages”.

The participants were joined by those who are in the 36th day of their hunger strike as part of a 24 hour sit-in protest outside the US Embassy in London.

The hunger strikers, like hundreds in Camp Liberty (the residence of Iranian refugees in Iraq), Berlin, Geneva, Ottawa and Melbourne, have been demanding urgent intervention by the US for the release of seven hostages who are currently taken hostage by Iraqi forces.

The hostages are on a dry hunger strike protesting as they risk of being handed over to Iran. Their extradition to Iran will lead to their torture and execution.
