Thousands of Iranians protest Rouhani’s UN visit, call on UN, US to act to free Camp Ashraf hostages

NCRI – Thousands of Iranians took part in a major demonstration in New York to reject Iran’s new president Hassan Rouhani and declared that he is anything but a moderate.

They called on US and UN to demand Iraq release seven Iranian dissidents taken hostage during the raid by Iraqi forces on Camp Ashraf on September 1.

They urged the U.S. and the UN to act immediately to ensure the safety and security of Iranian dissidents in Camp Liberty, Iraq.

The Iranians supporters of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), come to New York from across the US.

The protesters declared that Rouhani does not represent the Iranian people.

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the Iranian Resistance sent a video message to the rally.

In her remarks, Mrs. Rajavi called on President Obama and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to act on their responsibility and break their silence; and use their influence in Iraq to immediately release the hostages and station a UN monitoring team and UN Blue Helmets in camp Liberty, home to 3,000 Iranian dissidents in Iraq. She demanded an independent investigation about the massacre of Ashraf in a define time frame by the UN.

Scores of American luminaries, including Mayor Rudy Giuliani, of New York, Ambassador John Bolton, former Congressman Patrick Kennedy, Michael Steel, former Chairman of Republican National Committee and Senator Robert Torricelli addressed the rally.

They rejected the notion of Rouhani being a moderate and they urged the US to stand by the Iranian people and the Iranian resistance for a regime change and the establishment of democracy and human rights in Iran.
