Iran: Regime minister predicts ‘tsunami’ of 8.5 million unemployed

NCRI – Iran is set to face a ‘tsunami’ of 8.5 million unemployed, the regime’s economy minister has admitted.

Ali Tayyeb-nia said there would soon be more people looking for work than at any time in the past 100 years.

The looming economic crisis comes as Iran is also facing record-breaking 42 per cent inflation, Tayyeb-nia said.

He told the Mehr news agency on August 28: “We have a large population that is ready for work. Around five million have either graduated from university or they are currently students that will soon join the work force.

“We need to have enough jobs for this population. Moreover, there are 3.5 million unemployed that if we add this 5 million to that it means that in the near future we will have 8.5 million people looking for work.

“Naturally, the number and rate of unemployment is higher for women, the new generation, and the educated. The highest unemployment rate for young women shows the importance and sensitivity of this matter. At the same time, we are facing a heavy double-digit inflation rate.

“When this 8.5 million people, where five million of them are college-educated, look for work, our country will face a tsunami unprecedented in the last 100 years since at no time during this period we have had so many people looking for jobs in Iran.”
