Food shortages and soaring inflation in Iran

NCRI – A lack of flour is causing a chronic bread shortage in Khuzestan province, according to reports from inside Iran.

According to the reports in recent days long queues had been formed outside bakeries in Sanandaj.

The state-run Fars news agency has also reported hikes in the price of milk and dairy products, which is blamed on the elimination of state subsidies.

The price of meat, vegetables and other basic foodstuffs have also all more than tripled in recent years.

Consumption of dairy products has now fallen by 20 per cent to 90 kilogrammes per year – only half the world average, one third of European countries and one seventh of developed countries.
