Iran: IRGC chief says only a few election candidates must be approved

NCRI – The head of Iranian regime’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) has told state-run media he wants the number of presidential candidates in mullahs’ sham presidential election be reduced to a few.

IRGC Commander Mohammad Ali Jaafari told the state-run Tasnim news agency on Thursday: “The IRGC suggests that the current level of between ten and 30 candidates should be reduced.

“We have to create conditions for the people to make the right choice and choose the fittest candidate. To do this we must pay special attention to the criteria that the Supreme Leader has set.”

Senior cleric Ali Saeedi, the Supreme Leader’s representative in the IRGC, also used the term of ‘well-advised engineering’ to describe the sham elections which are being engineered to have Ali Khamenei’s desired outcome.

The IRGC believes as low as the number of candidates can become it would be easier to have an “engineered election.”

Jaafari also admitted Iran under the mullahs rule was in the midst of a financial crisis, telling Tasnim news agency: “We are currently enduring the most difficult economic conditions.”

Jaafari’s comments also come after Iran’s military chief also warned that his troops are on high alert to crush any public protests during the elections.

Seyed Hassan Firouz-Abadi told the state-run Mehr news agency: “Our armed forces are completely ready to confront any kind of possible sedition and evil in the forthcoming elections.

“They have experienced the riots during the 2009 uprising, and they are fully acquainted with how to confront these kinds of dangers.”
