Iran: ‘Deviant groups’ to be jailed and lashed, new law proposes

NCRI – A group of members of the Iranian regime’s parliament are proposing tough new punishments that would see members of ‘deviant’ groups jailed and whipped.

A group of MPs has submitted a bill to parliament calling for yet more draconian laws to crush any opposition.

Human rights issues should not be given priority over enforcement of the law, the bill states.

It proposes that founders of ‘deviant groups’ in Iran or abroad should face five to ten years in prison and between 31 and 74 lashes, or both punishments.

Anyone promoting these groups would be sentenced to two to five imprisonment, 31 to 74 lashes or both.

And members of these groups would also face both six months to two years behind bars and 31 to 74 lashes.

The bill also proposes that a committee composed of a representatives of the Judiciary, the Intelligence Ministry and Public Culture Council – part of the Culture and Guidance Ministry – should work together to identify these groups.
