Protesters mark two years of continuous demonstration for Iranians in Camp Liberty and Ashraf

NCRI – Families of Iranian dissidents in Camp Liberty and Ashraf in Iraq on Friday marked two years of continuous protest outside the United Nations headquarters in Geneva.

The demonstrators were joined by politicians and supporters of the Iranian Resistance to call for the immediate transfer of the residents out of Camp Liberty, near Baghdad airport.

Camp liberty houses over 3,000 Iranian dissidents members of the People’s Mojahedin of Iran (PMOI/MEK) who were forcibly evicted from decades long home in Camp Ashraf.

The protesters warned of the immediate risk of further attacks against the Iranian dissidents, following the deadly February 9 massacre which left eight dead and more than 100 wounded.

They asked United Nation High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to take responsibility of Camp Liberty and return the residents to their home in Ashraf, where they can enjoy greater protection.

They also said repeated guarantees by the UN and its Iraqi representative Martin Kobler over the health and security of Iranians had never been kept.

The protesters said that the Iraqi government and Martin Kobler, through their continuous lies against residents are paving the way for another massacre of their family members and their relatives in Ashraf and Camp Liberty.

The protesters also called on the U.S. government and UNHCR to send delegations to Liberty immediately to directly observe the realities at the camp to avoid another tragedy.

Families of Ashraf residents asked the U.S. government and the UN Security Council and the Secretary-General to take measure with regard to the safety and security of the residents of Camp Liberty and transfer the residents to a European country or U.S., or return the residents to Ashraf where they enjoy greater protection.

They also laid flowers in memory of the Iranian Resistance’s Swiss representative Professor Kazem Rajavi, who was murdered by Iranian regime’s terrorists in Geneva in 1990.
