UPDATE: Iranians celebrate Fire Festival – 21:30 GMT

NCRI – The people of Iran began to celebrate  the traditional Fire Festival (Chaharshanbe-Suri) on Tuesday despite a heavy presence of State Security Forces and extensive repressive measure by the regime to prevent them.

Karaj:

“During the celebrations in Karaj, a member of Bassij forces wanted to arrest a young man carrying firecrackers but people intervened and stopped him.”

“In another incident the SSF agents on motorcycles tried to arrest to young men but people prevented them. “

“The forces continued to patrol the area but since they could not do anything they stayed away from people.”

Ahwaz:

“In Kian Pars street, people clashed with State Security Forces .”

 

Malayer:

“A large crowd took part in the celebrations.  At first people planned to hold the celebration in a park in the city. The regime’s forces closed the park. People held celebrations in streets and districts. Despite heavy presence of the forces he celebrations were held.”

Urmieh:

“In the city’s main square people protested the presence of State Security Forces and plainclothes agents. They set ablaze three a number of city’s trashcans.”

Tehran:

“In Roodaki street the SSF stopped approaching people who are celebrating.  Whenever they approached people called them ‘traitors’ ‘mercenaries’.”

 

Rasht:

“A large group of members of Bassij paramilitary force riding motorcycles entered the main city’s square and attacked the people and youths who were celebrating.  Skirmishes continued between the people and members of Bassij.”

Tehran, Saadat-abad district:

“In the Saadat-abad district, the sounds of handmade explosives could be heard in the area.”

 Shiraz:

“In Namazi and Mulla-Sadra streets a number of youths clashed with plainclothes agents of Iranian regime.”

 Ilam:

“People gathered in park around 19:30 local time. The SSF tried to disperse the crowd but people continued with the celebration. The SSF closed the park not to let others join the crowd in the park.”

Tehran, Hashemi Street:

“Residents of Tehran, particularly youths gathered in Hashemi Street and lit bonfires.”

“The people throw firecrackers and jump over bonfires.”

“The security forces patrolling the area unsuccessfully tried to prevent the people to celebrate Fire Festival.”

Tehran, Lavasn District:
“People lit very large bonfires. The sounds of firecrackers can be heard in all over the district.
The SSF patrols are afraid to approach people.”

Tehran, 8:30 pm:
“In north Tehran, people throw fire crackers at a branch of a state bank in act of protest.”

Ahwaz:
“The city is very crowded. In Golestan area and Lashkarak Square and Rah-aahan the security forces fired shot in the air.”

Karaj:
“All the stores were forced closed by SSF by 7:30 pm local time.”
“The sounds of firecrackers and handmade explosives can be heard in the city”

Ahwaz, Kian Pars district:
“SSF tried to disperse the crowd but people ignored them and in some areas there were skirmishes with the security forces.”

Zanjan:
“The celebrations have started from 5pm despite heavy presence of SSF.”

Shiraz:
“In Chamran street a SSF patrol car was set on fire. The units of Special Forces have been deployed in the area.”

Tehran, Istanbul Intersection:
“People in Neyshabour Square released balloon in the air. Some resident lit bonfires on the houses’ rooftops. The sounds of firecrackers can be heard in the area.”

Shiraz:
“In Chamran street, in Maali District, people chanted: “Damn with the high prices, Damn with the mullahs.”
