EU says Iran nuclear enrichment ‘very bad news’

EU says Iran nuclear enrichment 'very bad news'Agence France Presse – Iran’s announcement that it has succeeded in enriching uranium is "very bad news," but will not deter efforts to resolve the crisis, EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana’s spokeswoman said Wednesday.

"The announcement made yesterday by Tehran goes in the wrong direction," she said, referring to the Iranian claim Tuesday, which is in direct contravention of a UN Security Council demand.

"This announcement is very bad news, but the timing of action by the international community remains that agreed by the UN Security Council," spokeswoman Cristina Gallach told AFP.

The Security Council has given Iran until April 28 to suspend all enrichment activities, as had been demanded by the International Atomic Energy Agency, the UN’s nuclear watchdog.

But the hardline regime of President President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad defied the international community by announcing it had successfully enriched uranium to make nuclear fuel.
