Canadian MP condemns rights abuse in Iran

Canadian deputy Prime Minister condemns rights abuse in IranNCRI – The warrant to execute Valiollah Feiz-Mahdavi, member of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran, was condemned by a rally in Ottawa on Thursday.

Dozens of Iranians and supporters of the Iranian Resistance joined in a rally in front of the Canadian Parliament to condemn clerical regime’s plan to execute political prisoners in Iran, specially those affiliated to the PMOI. The event was organized by the Committee in defense of Human Rights in Iran.

The Iranian regime has notified Mr. Feiz-Mahdavi in an official death warrant that he is going to be executed on May 16.

Among speakers to the rally was Mr. Jason Kenney, Conservative member of the House of Commons in Canada and the Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister. He started his speech by welcoming participants to the rally on his own behalf as well as the Prime Minister and stressed that the new Canadian government would work hard to establish fundamental freedoms in Iran. He reiterated that these freedoms are universal and Iranians should not be deprived from them. He expressed his sincere hope to see these freedoms respected in Iran in a near future.

In a resolution which was adopted at the end of the rally, the participants called on the Canadian government as well as other governments around the world and international human rights bodies to act immediately to save the life of Mr. Feiz-Mahdavi and other political prisoners in Iran. They also called for appointment of a special reporter by the United Nations to monitor human rights situation in Iran and referral of the mullahs’ human rights file to the UN Security Council.
