Prominent Iraqi Shiite cleric, accused Iranian regime of assassination plot

NCRI – Iyad Jamal al-Din, prominent Iraqi Shiite cleric and leader of Ahrar Party, accused Iranian regime of his assassination plot due to his stance opposing the regime’s meddling in Iraq’s internal affairs, Al-Sharqiya TV reported on August 13th.

Iyad Jamal al-Din said: I have remained silent since the last election, while there was widespread grounds to protest the election results. In fact there were documents (showing election fraud), but I was disappointed to achieve my rights through judiciary or legal practices, or civilized and peaceful methods.

The election results were determined beforehand. So, I remained silent and said we will wait patiently until the next election and did not appear in public or the press.

Jamal al-Din continued: Until recently, I was out of Iraq most of the times. On the second day of my arrival in Iraq, this ugly crime took place. I think Iranian need to remember that this was not their first crime to target me, specially because, since the collapse of the former regime, it was the fifth (assassination attempt), and they all occurred in areas where the Iranian individuals are concentrated. There are no grounds to accuse a-Qaeda in this crime.
