Perils of Iran’s Meddling in Iraq

NCRI – Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, stated that the Iranian regime is still violating Iraq’s sovereignty by meddling in this country’s social and political affairs, training and arming paramilitary groups to carry out attacks in Iraq’s soil and by nullifying the efforts of people in areas of economic growth, development and independence.Washington post reported August 2.

The Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff stated that the Iranian regime wants a feeble Iraq that is indebted to Iran and therefore obeys Iranian regime’s political stance vis-à-vis the world.

According to Washington Post’s report, Michael Mullen said the increasing influence of the Iranian regime on Iraqis will make the region face serious perils. How America will tackle these perils depends on Iraq’s decision to ask American forces to stay in Iraq.

Admiral Mullen warned that any decision Iraqi leaders make has to remain Iraqi and no other country or foreign power should impose it upon Iraq.

Washington Post added the importance of such decision making becomes greater considering the number of recent fatal attacks and the report showing that Iraq is presently more perilous that last year.
