Norwegian Government must condemn the attacks on Ashraf residents and the plans for their forceful relocation

NCRI – In an open letter to the Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs published in Adresseavisen, Knut Fagerbakke, Deputy Mayor of Trondheim wrote: The Norwegian government should condemn the attacks on Camp Ashraf and the plans for forceful relocation of Ashraf residents.

The letter addressing the Minister of Foreign Affairs Jonas Gahr Støre said: I am writing to you regarding the conditions of more than 3400 members of the Iranian opposition, the People’s Mojahedin, who are residing in Camp Ashraf.  Ms. Irene Khan, the former Secretary general of Amnesty International said the following about Ashraf: “Various observers describe Ashraf and its residents with 3 different perspectives: a thorn in the eyes of the Iranian regime, an important factor in Tehran-Baghdad dialogue, and a symbol of the resistance of Iranians.”

Knut Fagerbakke added: At issue are more than 3400 human beings, many of them, including women, have been fighting for about a quarter of a century for their cause, for their struggle, and for freedom at Camp Ashraf.

The Norwegian government must condemn the attacks against Camp Ashraf and the plans for compulsory relocation of Ashraf residents and ask the United Nations to station its peacekeeping forces at Ashraf. Norway must also ask the United States to resume the responsibility for protection of Camp Ashraf to prevent violation of the Ashraf residents’ lives, Fagerbakke said.
