Committee of Iraqi jurists demands lifting of siege on Ashraf

NCRI – A committee of jurists in Iraq has released a statement condemning the perpetration of ongoing psychological torture against the residents of Camp Ashraf, where 3,400 members of the main Iranian opposition movement reside in Iraq.

The Iranian regime and its proxies continue the psychological torture of the residents of Ashraf using 210 powerful loudspeakers.

The committee said the siege on Ashraf should be ended immediately.

The Arab Committee of Jurists in Defence of the Rights of 1,000 Women in Ashraf said in its statement that on the orders of an Iraqi committee in the prime minister’s office charged with suppressing Ashraf, Iraqi forces are denying the flow of medicine to the residents.

The medicine has been purchased by the residents themselves under the supervision and by agreement from the Iraqi head of the hospital in Ashraf, the statement added.

The committee of Iraqi jurists called on US forces and the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) to uphold their obligations towards Ashraf and end the Iranian regime’s psychological torture.

“We demand the presence of a permanent UNAMI team and US forces in Ashraf to provide protection for the residents,” the jurists said.
