NCRI – Iranians held gatherings and demonstrations in a number of major cities in the Western countries protesting against the execution of Reyhaneh Jabbari and the recent wave of acid attacks against women and girls carried out by the regime’ gangs that have left at least one dead and dozens severely injured.

Iranian protesters described the attacks as “the latest example of the ongoing war against women in the country”. Protests were held outside the White House in Washington, The Hague, Berlin, Cologne, Paris and Ottawa.

As many as 25 women have been victims of heinous attacks involving acid thrown onto their faces by gangs affiliated to the Iranian regime.

“These attacks are motivated by a culture of misogyny and repression towards women that is a direct result of the ruling regimes and its policy of gender apartheid. The Iranian regime is complicit in these crimes as the state continues to maintain policies which encourage or acquiesce towards gender based violence,” said a statement by U.S. based Organization of Iranian American Communities (OIAC).

Thousands of protesters took the streets in Isfahan on Wednesday the 22nd of October to protest the recent attacks against defenseless women. The Iranian judiciary claimed that a number of individuals have been arrested as a result of these attacks, yet it is clear that gender based violence is sanctioned on an institutional level. These attacks are part of a broader policy to intimidate and terrorize women who dare to defy the regime and all that it represents.

Protesters called on the international community and human rights organizations to condemn – in the strongest terms – the continual attacks of terror against women in Iran.

They stressed that the Iranian regime must be held accountable for this systematic persecution of women.

Protesters expressed their support for the Ten Point Plan for a democratic Iran presented by Mrs. Maraym Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran.

Iranians carried posters of Reyhaneh Jabbari who was hanged in Iran on Saturday for killing a member of the Iranian regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) while acting in self-defense as he tried to sexually assault her. Jabbari’s execution was condemned worldwide.

All evidence indicate that the criminal execution of Ms. Rayhaneh Jabbari after seven and a half years incarceration and torture that took place despite widespread protests and international calls had political reasons and motives and that this execution was unlawful even in the framework of mullahs’ medieval laws.Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian Resistance, hailed the perseverance of Reyhaneh Jabbari and offered her sympathy to her bereaved family. She called on the Iranian people, especially the women and the youth, to express their solidarity with Reyhaneh’s family and to protest and resist the criminal death sentences and the savage suppression of women, such as the acid attacks.

Mrs. Rajavi called for an independent international probe into the execution of Reyhaneh Jabbari as an example of arbitrary, extrajudicial and criminal death sentences that have taken on added dimensions since Rouhani’s tenure.
