NCRI – Atena Daemi, an Iranian female political prisoner, is reported to be in dire condition in Tehran’s notorious Evin Prison after 44 days of hunger strike.

On the night of May 20 she was transferred to Evin’s clinic after symptoms such as “stomach ache and vomiting.”

However, prison officials have refused to dispatch Daemi to a hospital as an emergency case. Daemi’s stomach take in water and absorb it. Therefore, in the past few days on various intervals the clinic has provided a stomach syrup with pain killers to allow her body to accept water. Despite all this Daemi has yet to receive further necessary medical care.

She has already lost 14 kilograms in weight. Her vomiting was severe and blood was witnessed on two occasions.

Daemi has been hunger strike since April 8 after her two sisters were arrested and sentenced to imprisonment.
