NCRI - A press conference was held at the sidelines of the United Nations Human Rights Council session in Geneva. Mr. Taher Boumedra, former UN human rights chief in Iraq, and a team of jurists discussed the summer 1988 massacre of political prisoners in Iran.

Mr. Boumedra was joined by Ms. Azade Zabeti, deputy of the Iranian lawyers committee in the United Kingdom, and Farzad Madadzadeh, a former political prisoner from Iran.

They provided a report to various journalists and reporters regarding the massacre of 30,000 political prisoners in 1988.

This 360-page report discusses the history of political executions in Iran back in the 1980s, presents the most important documents regarding the 1988 massacre carried out under orders issued by Iranian regime founder Ruhollah Khomeini, interviews with witnesses of the massacre, naming the perpetrators behind this carnage, providing images and charts of mass graves found in which the victims were buried across the country, and other relevant international documents.

The report, prepared at the request of the “Justice for the Victims of Iran’s 1988 Massacre” association, is written by Ms. Zabeti, a human rights lawyer and expert. She participated in this press conference on behalf of this organization and provided an explanation on the various phases regarding how this report was prepared.

“This report was written following the revelation of Mr. Montazeri’s sound file last year and the first publication coincided with the UN Human Rights Council session,” she said.

Former political prisoner Farzad Madadzadeh explained what he witnessed in Iran’s prisons and reiterated how Iran’s younger generation is demanding those behind the 1988 massacre be brought to justice.
