NCRI – Two Iranian Kurds were arrested on April 2nd for managing a Telegram social media channel about workers and child labor.

Haywa Kiaie and Mehdi Salahi phoned their families on April 4th to inform them of their arrest. However, they did not mention the charges raised against them and where they were being held.

During the past few years Iran’s Revolutionary Guards intelligence and the Intelligence Ministry have arrested a number of social media users active on Telegram.

Three Telegram users by the names of Alireza Tavakoli, Mohammad Mehdi Zamanzadeh and Mohammad Mohajer were arrested in September and October by the Ministry of Intelligence. They were sentenced to a total of 36 years behind bars and are currently held in Tehran’s notorious Evin Prison.
