NCRI – According to Tasnim News Agency Online, Asak bicycle manufacturing factory in Ghochan, which was one of the largest bicycle manufacturing in the Middle East and a place for creation of employment for many people in that region, officially closed on April 17th, 2017.

The Ghochan bicycle Industrial complex with a brand name “Asak two-wheels” was planned in an area of 20 hectares in 1984 and reached its production capacity of 300 thousand bikes a year on 22 October 1999. But its difficulties finally reached their peak, due to the existing recession and the lack of proper decision making by its managers and authorities. This company’s life came to an end after 30 years of production.

Younes Ziaie, the head of the labor union of Ghochan bicycle Industrial complex, has said that according to an official letter of the factory owner, this production unit is officially closed and the remaining 40 workers lost their jobs at the beginning of March 2017.

He pointed out the back pay of salaries and wages owed to the workers by the factory owner and said that workers’ salaries at this factory had not been paid for 22 months. Also, no insurance premiums were paid for 25 months and no required yearly bonuses were paid for past three years.

One Ghouchani citizen said that near the parliamentary elections of 2015, as part of election propaganda, some officials stated in their ads that the Asak bicycle manufacturing factory would be revived again, but after the election, no promises were kept.

According to many Ghouchani citizens, Chinese or Taiwanese manufactured bicycles are replacing Asak manufactured bicycles in markets, which before the closure of this factory regional markets were reluctant to sell foreign made bikes.
