For the third consecutive day, the Iraqi national security advisor Faleh Fayyad, in charge of the committee to suppress the Iranian opposition in Ashraf and Liberty, has prevented entry of food, fuel and septic trucks to Camp Liberty at behest of the Iranian regime. The criminal and anti-human measure in the 50 degrees Celsius heat in the fasting month of Ramadhan, depriving Liberty from food and fuel takes place while the government of Iraq has announced Thursday a holiday due to intense heat.

On July 16, 2015, a conference was held at the UK House of Commons entitled: 'The Quest for Freedom and Democracy in Iran'. The theme of the conference was how to bring about human rights in Iran and in Camp Liberty, which houses thousands of members of the main Iranian opposition group PMOI (MEK) in Iraq. Camp Liberty has been under a food and fuel siege since earlier this week. Cross-Party lawmakers from both Houses of Parliament spoke at the conference, as did Mr. Struan Stevenson, former Chairman of the European Parliamentary's delegation for relations with Iraq, and prominent Arab lawyer Sabah al-Mukhtar. The panel took questions from the audience. They called on the UK, US and UN to take urgent measures to compel the Iraqi government to lift its siege on Camp Liberty.

Extreme heat, worn out electric generators, electricity crisis and disruption of public services in Camp Liberty Call for ending the inhumane siege on Camp Liberty NCRI - The siege and inhumane restrictions imposed on Camp Liberty and the recent heat wave in Iraq, which has made it among the hottest places on earth, has the Camp Liberty residents facing excruciating conditions and major problems. One of the problems with the worn out electric generators is that they have been designed for at the most 40 degrees Celsius temperatures, and heat of 50 degrees reduces their output to at most 45%. In recent days, the principal parts of three generators have been damaged, and they are no longer functional. The burden of these three generators has to be compensated by the remaining generators in operation that make them even more prone to breakdowns. The radiators and peripheral instruments of these generators are extremely worn out and are breaking down on a daily basis. The repair of generators needs spare parts that the Iraqi forces prevent from entering the camp. This in turn leads to further breakdowns of the electric generators resulting in a serious electricity crisis in the camp (See pictures of some fuel powered generators). All functions of the camp such as cooling, heating, kitchen, bakery, foodstuff storages, black water pumps, lighting and the water systems are dependent on the generators. The reduction of generated electricity has led to the breakdown of cooling systems and foodstuff storages. These cooling systems need Freon gas and spare parts, but the Iraqi forces prevent the entry of spare parts and contracted repairmen. It is now two days that the only trash truck of the camp has broken down because of excess workload and it cannot be repaired. Iraqi intelligence agents prevent transfer of trash with another vehicle. The trash is piling up in the camp and is producing unsanitary conditions that would lead to the breakout of infectious diseases. These restrictions are only part of the inhumane siege and egregious breach of humanitarian and human rights standards that have been implemented against camp’s residents in the past four years by Faleh Fayyaz. These measures are a severe breach of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Iraqi government and the United Nations, as well as a violation of many international covenants, whose perpetrators must be held accountable. The Iranian Resistance calls on the United Nations and the U.S. government that have repeatedly and in writing committed themselves to the wellbeing and security of Camp Liberty residents, as well as the European Union and all its member states, to take urgent action to end the inhumane siege of Camp Liberty.
