The US administration ought to support the Iranian Resistance to bring about regime change in Iran, former White House policy advisor Frances Townsend said on Saturday.

Frances Townsend, former Homeland Security ‎Advisor to President George W. Bush, was addressing the huge Iran Freedom rally organized each year in Paris.

“Supporting ‎the Iranian Resistance is the missing part of the US ‎administration policy,” she said, urging the White House to open dialogue with the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI).

Townsend had co-signed a bi-partisan statement alongside other leading former US officials, saying that in order to stop nuclear proliferation and the spread of Islamic fundamentalism in the Middle East, there should be international support for the Resistance to bring about regime change in Iran.

“Ms. Maryam Rajavi precisely represents the ‎genuine opposition to Iran’s fundamentalist ‎clerics,” she said.

Some 600 international lawmakers and political dignitaries attended the Paris rally in support of Mrs. Rajavi’s 10-point plan for a future free Iran. Among them a large number of international women in formerly high positions of power were present. They included former Canadian Prime Minister Kim Campbell, former French Human Rights Minister Rama Yade, former French Foreign and Defense Minister Michèle Alliot-Marie, former White House Director of Public Liaison Linda Chavez, former Spanish Deputy Prime Minister Maria Teresa Fernandez de la Vega, former Speaker of Germany’s Bundestag Rita Süssmuth, and former German Justice Minister Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger.
