Saturday, 18 July 2009
National Council of Resistance of IranNCRI - Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the Iranian Resistance's President-elect, called on the United Nations Secretary General and High Commissioner for Human Rights as well as human rights and women's rights organizations, lawyers and jurists unions to condemn the violent arrest of Ms. Shadi Sadr, a lawyer, journalist and women's rights activist. Mrs. Rajavi urged that they take urgent action to ensure the release of Ms. Sadr and dozens of women's rights activists, lawyers, jurists and journalists arrested in recent weeks.

Plainclothes agents violently attacked and arrested Ms. Sadr on Tehran's Keshavarz Boulevard yesterday. While being beaten with truncheons, and with her clothes torn apart, she was forced into a vehicle and taken to an unknown location.

In recent weeks, a number of women's rights activists and lawyers have been arrested and remain imprisoned.
