Iran: Martial law instituted in Kermanshah; Back up forces brought in from border PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 23 June 2009

An undeclared martial law has been instituted in Kermanshah (western Iran). People have been officially warned that a gathering of more than three people is banned across town starting at 16:00 local time, threatening any breach from the directive will be dealt with a crushing response. Moreover, the State Security Force and the Bassij have brought in their border guards (Iran-Iraq border) specifically to back up their forces stationed around the city and to confront popular protests.

People also take to their rooftops every night at around 22:00 and chant “God is Great.” The chants continue for an hour to an-hour-and-a-half and take place in various parts, including Nobahar, Ferdowsi, Javanshir and other areas.
