Iraqi Islamic Party denounces Rafsanjani's visit to Iraq PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 04 March 2009

Iraqi Vice President Tareq al-HashemiNCRI – Iraqi Vice President Tareq al-Hashemi, of the Iraqi Islamic Party, said in a statement released on Monday that Rafsanjani was "not welcome" in Iraq and hit out at the Iranian regime’s  interference.

"This interference has harmed the security and political situation and has taken the country close to the brink of civil war," he said.

"The positive development of relations between the two countries demands the respect of Iraq's internal affairs -- that the interference, such as the support of militias and the passage of arms and drugs across our common border, cease."

Rafsanjani was Iran regime’s president between 1989 and 1997 and he is now the president of the powerful Expediency Council.

Last September, the Argentine President, Mrs. Cristina Fernandez, in her speech at the UN General Assembly, called for the trial of six Iranian officials, including the former president Hashemi Rafsanjani, who are wanted for their role in Jewish centre bombing in Buenos Aires (Amia bombing) on July18, 1994. She called for their surrender to the Argentinean judiciary for trial.

Following 13 years of investigations, the General Assembly of the Interpol, in November 2007, issued Red Notices for a number of regime’s officials including former Intelligence Minister, Ali Fallahian and former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Mohsen Rezai , who both are accompanying Rafsanjani in his visit to Iraq.
