Iran: Ahmad Jannati worried about sanctions and their impact on economy PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 03 October 2008
jannati_iran_friday prayersNCRI - Ahmad Jannati, secretary of the mullahs' powerful Guardian Council said Friday, "Enemies have targeted Iran's economy on the vain hope to counter the Islamic Republic," reported the official news agency IRNA on Friday.

Addressing Friday prayer worshipers at Tehran University campus, Jannati said "Enemies are bent on fanning economic crisis and problems in a bid to encounter the Islamic Republic of Iran."

Jannati said among other enemy tactics is "dividing Shiites and Sunnis, pitting Sunnis against Sunnis or Shiites against Shiites."

He said the policy is mainly pursued in Iran and Iraq and then in other Muslim states by the enemies. "Let's be careful in order not to fall preys to the enemies," he added.

Referring to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, he added that among other enemy strategies is tarnishing image of our officials. "They wish to undermine those who are backing for the public and are trusted by them."
To foil such crises, officials and people at large should be vigilant, Jannati added.

Touching on the US economic problems, Jannati said, "We are happy that the US economy has come across with difficulty. They are attesting unfavorable consequences of their conducts. They are experiencing divine punishment. We are happy over that. The more they become unhappy, the happier we get as they become happy as we get unhappy."

Threading the US for its presence in Afghanistan and Pakistan borders, Jannati said, "The problem cannot be ignored. They invade forcefully, refuse to observe any boundary and are not committed to anything. They attack anywhere they wish; they kill anybody they want and consider anywhere as their property. Americans should wait to be slapped in the face by Islam, Muslims and the Islamic Revolution."

Jannati hailed Ahmadinejad for his visit to the US and his speech before the UN General Assembly last month.

"Anybody bravely raising the Islamic Republic and Revolutionary stances at the UN authoritatively and proudly, naming God, reciting Quran and telling the things that no body dares to cite them, is worth admiration," he added.

"Iranian ambassadors should honor the stance anywhere and should not show any weakness," said Jannati impressed by Ahmadinejad's trip to the UN.
