NCRI, Naghadeh, Iran - On the first anniversary of Azeris' uprising, thousands of people gathered in the "Enghelab" Square in northwestern city of Naghadeh on Wednesday, May 23 to commemorate the occasion.

The demonstration took place while hundreds of special units of riot police and other security forces had rushed to the scene from the nearby cities fearing escalation of anti-government unrests.

At 11 a.m. government forces attacked the demonstrators and arrested unknown number of youth. The whereabouts of those arrested is currently unknown.

To prevent the news to spread, the Iranian regime blocked all mobile telephone communications in Naghadeh.

According to reports, sporadic clashes continue in the city and the government has imposed an undeclared state of emergency.
