NCRI - Students of Tehran Polytechnic (Amir-Kabir University) started a hunger strike on Monday, May 21 to protest against arrest of seven of their fellow classmates, continuing pressures, arrest warrants and disciplinary actions against opposing students.

The students placed their food trays throughout the university area stretching from the university restaurant to other buildings including office of the University President.

Nariman Mostafavi, a protesting student and a member of the Central Council of Islamic Association of Amir-Kabir university said: "The Association tried to calm down the university last week at the request of the professors. But the security forces thought their repressive policies have succeeded and summoned 48 students to disciplinary committees, banned 15 students from entering the university and ordered disciplinary actions against 10 other students."

"This hunger strike shows that the university administration has not succeeded to impose atmosphere of fear on the university and the students are awaiting explanations from the university president regarding these events," he added.

Some of the slogans that had been placed besides each tray reads as: "University = Evin Prison," "Free our classmates," and "Stop random arrests."

The students have asked all professors and the university administration members to support their demands and block the unlawful actions of the university administration.
