Friday, 27 January 2006
Iran: We will work with groups demanding people's rights – BushNCRI – In a press conference on Thursday, the U.S. President George Bush addressed the Iranian regime's nuclear threat and said: "I do believe people ought to be able to be allowed to have civilian nuclear power. However, I don't believe non-transparent regimes that threaten the security of the world should be allowed to gain the technologies necessary to make a weapon. And the Iranians have said, we want a weapon."

Iran: Russian nuclear proposal not good enough for mullahs
Friday, 27 January 2006
Iran: Russian nuclear proposal not good enough for mullahsNCRI – Clerical regime's top nuclear negotiator said on Friday that a Russian proposal to enrich uranium for the mullahs does not meet their demand.

"The Russian proposal is not sufficient for Iran's nuclear energy needs," Ali Larijani told reporters upon his return from China.

The clerical regime first appeared cool over the Russian idea, then implicitly rejected it and then embraced it. Some Western diplomats have accused Iranians of trying to buy time and avoid being referred to the UN Security Council.

Iran: Ahmadinejad's shrewd play
Friday, 27 January 2006
Ali M. Safavi is president of Near East Policy Research Inc.By Dr. Ali Safavi

NCRI - As mentioned before on many occasions by personalities in the Iranian Resistance (Mr. Mohaddessin, Ayatollah Jalal Gangei, etc). Islamic fundamentalism emanating from Tehran is a school of thought set to dominate the entire world. It is not a purely religious phenomenon but rather a totalitarian political trend that has turned Islam into an instrument for consolidating "absolute power." It is an Oriental totalitarianism to be compared in some form although with distinct differences (mainly its strong religious overtone) with Occidental totalitarianisms such as Nazism.

West wants UN to urge suspension of Iran nuclear activity: draft
Thursday, 26 January 2006
West wants UN to urge suspension of Iran nuclear activity: draft Agence France Presse - Western powers want the UN Security Council to call on Iran to suspend sensitive nuclear fuel activity, according to a UN draft resolution read to AFP.

The United States, along with Britain, Germany and France, are haggling with key Iranian trading partners Russia and China over the wording of the draft resolution for an emergency meeting in Vienna February 2 of the UN watchdog International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The draft -- read to AFP -- "recommends to the Security Council that it consider making clear to Iran that outstanding questions" can be resolved "by Iran responding" to calls by the IAEA for a suspension of nuclear fuel work and cooperation with IAEA inspectors.

Don't go wobbly on Iran
Thursday, 26 January 2006
Don't go wobbly on Iran''IT IS not on the table. It is not on the agenda. I happen to think it is inconceivable."

By Jeff Jacoby, Globe Columnist

The Boston Globe - That was British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw in September, telling the BBC what he thinks about the use of military force to prevent Iran's homicidal theocrats from acquiring nuclear weapons. Last week Straw went further, declaring that even economic sanctions would be an overreaction. ''I don't think we should rush our fences here," he told a conference in London. Much better to turn the whole thing over to the UN Security Council, so long as any action it might take ''is followed without sanction." What he recommends, in other words, is a Security Council resolution with no teeth. That'll fix the mullahs' wagon.

Many in Congress Advocate Stance on Iran
Wednesday, 25 January 2006
U.S. CongressThe Associated Press - As the Bush administration pushes to refer Iran to the U.N. Security Council, many members of Congress are advocating get-tough approaches and say military force should remain an option to thwart Tehran's nuclear ambitions.

Lawmakers largely back the effort to haul Iran before the Security Council over the Iranian government's refusal to give up its uranium enrichment program. But some say they doubt that a simple reprimand from the council — seen as a likely outcome — will be enough to persuade Iran to change course.
